Favicon in the SERPS

Favicon is not (or no longer) displayed in the SERPs

We explain which requirements must now be met.

The website’s favicon is not displayed in the SERPs: A not very rare, but nevertheless worrying problem. 😱

Google has recently updated its guidelines for favicon searches. The Googlebot and Google Imagebot must now have access to the favicon in order to display it.

The following requirements must therefore be met:
✔️ Favicon is correctly placed in the <head> of the website
✔️ At best, it is also stored via structured data (JSON-LD)
✔️ Googlebot and Google Imagebot are not blocked via robots.txt

If these 3 points are fulfilled, then …
Patience. ⏳

As experienced marketing experts, we at Loyamo have found that – especially for websites with low domain popularity – it can take several weeks to months before the favicon is (re)displayed in the search results.
